Alpha Kappa Alpha Invests in a Healthier Future

We are so grateful for the Rho Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha and their philosophy that “a healthy family is the foundation of a healthy community.”

“We believe that access to nutritious food is a basic right that supports learning, growth, and overall well-being,” says Shauntā Singer, the Chapter President.

Recently, Shauntā and her sorority sisters volunteered with the Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB) and helped fill BackPacks for BVFB’s Children’s BackPack Program.

“It was powerful to imagine each [BackPack] in the hands of a child,” Shauntā comments.

The Rho Phi Omega Chapter’s Empower Our Families initiative, which also includes their Childhood Hunger Initiative, mirrors BVFB’s commitment to helping families and children experiencing food insecurity.

“Realizing some children may not have consistent meals over the weekend was eye-opening, and this program offers hope, health, and dignity in a simple but powerful way,” says Shauntā. “The experience reminded us why we serve and how every act of kindness can ripple through a community.”

Thank you, Rho Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha and all of our volunteers, for investing in a stronger, healthier Brazos Valley.

“The experience reminded us why we serve,” Shauntā shares, “and how every act of kindness can ripple through a community.”
