UPDATE: October 30, 2025

2025 Federal Government Shutdown

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is monitoring how the federal government shutdown may impact government benefits.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): November SNAP benefits will not be issued at this time.

Woman, Infant and Children Program (WIC): WIC benefits are not currently affected.

Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF): TANF benefits are not currently affected.

Medicaid: Medicaid is not currently affected.

Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP): CHIP is not currently affected

Updates will be posted on the Your Texas Benefits website, Your Texas Benefits mobile app, and on the Texas Health and Human Services website. You can also call 2-1-1 to get the latest information. 

For existing SNAP recipients, new work requirements start November 1, 2025, and you will be screened for the new work requirements at the next recertification.  You can find more information here: https://www.hhs.texas.gov/services/food/snap-food-benefits/snap-work-rules
