America has more than enough food to feed everyone, but our abundance is accompanied by tremendous waste. According to Feeding America, of the food that goes to waste in the U.S.
* 20 billion pounds is from
* 50 billion pounds is from Consumer Facing Businesses, like grocery stores, restaurants, and the government
* 2 billion pounds is from manufacturers
* 54 billion pounds is from our homes
The Brazos Valley Food Bank, with the assistance of Feeding Texas and Feeding America, focuses on the first three areas: farms, consumer-facing businesses and manufacturers

The Brazos Valley Food Bank works with The Collaborative for Fresh Produce, Retail partners and the USDA to rescue food and distribute it to partner agencies
Rescuing, loading/unloading, safely storing, then delivering food to partners throughout the Brazos Valley for distribution to the hungry, takes many resources
* Less than 10% of the Brazos Valley Food Bank's funding comes from the government
* The Food Bank's administrative overhead is 5% - meaning 95 cents out of every dollar goes to services and programs
* $1 = 5 meals
