During the school year, low-income children have access to free and reduced price meals at school, but after school and over the summer, they don’t. In partnership with the Houston Food Bank’s Kids Café program, the Brazos Valley Food Bank Kids Café program addresses childhood hunger by providing free meals and snacks at participating locations to children ages 1-18 outside of school hours.
- During the school year, kids receive free afterschool meals, as well as nutrition education and other activities like tutoring, in a safe space (like an afterschool program)
- During the summer, when children lack access to the National School Lunch Program, Kids Café offers free breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack at participating locations.
By providing nutritious meals and snacks, Kids Café helps start children on the right path for success.
The Brazos Valley Food Bank Kids Café program is an emerging program expansion, working with the Houston Food Bank to expand the Kids Café program throughout our 6 county service area. We are excited to identify partners and build relationships to benefit children, and hope to provide updates on our progress in the near future.
