In the Brazos Valley, all counties are considered rural, except for Brazos. Gaining access to healthy and affordable food can be a challenge for rural residents. 3/4 of the counties with the highest rates of food insecurity are in rural areas and 86% of the counties with the highest rates of child food insecurity are rural. Mobile Food Pantries are a tangible solution to rural hunger. They bring fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food directly to food communities with inadequate access to the nutritious foods needed to maintain a healthy diet. Mobile Food Pantries are flexible in that distribution can occur where it is most needed, even if a physical building is not available. Monthly Mobile Food Pantries occur in Grimes, Madison, and Washington Counties. They rely heavily on volunteer and donor support to sustain monthly, needed distributions to these underserved communities. $20 = 1 Family Box of food.
