Some parents work days, some work nights
and some work weekends.
Sometimes finding a food pantry that is open
when the need arises can be tough.
Some have special needs, a disability that makes them homebound or even a mental illness that limits their
ability to do well in social settings.
Some do not have transportation and when they find someone who can drive them to get food assistance,
no food pantry is open at that time.
Some have already visited the local food pantry that month and have to wait until the next month to access services again.

Some, for the first time in their lives, are having trouble making ends meet. They simply do not know who can help them. What do they do in the meantime?

The Brazos Valley Food Bank realizes families are unique and have unique needs...

For these reasons and many others, not all of our hungry neighbors can access food pantries when they are open. In realizing these needs, the Brazos Valley Food Bank keeps Emergency Family Boxes on hand. Family Boxes contain over 40 pounds of nutritionally balanced items that can assist a family through a crisis. Individuals or families that receive Emergency Family Boxes are always given 2-1-1 Call for Help referral information, our Emergency Food Assistance Referral Sheet and are asked about applying for Food Stamps.

In 2008, food from the Brazos Valley Food Bank reached over 55,000 individuals through our partner agencies - pantries, residential facilities, recreation centers, etc.
